San Diego

Fun things to do and see in San Diego that won't cost you a fortune.
Catalina Island
From San Pedro, Long Beach or Newport beach a family can catch a boat to Catalina. You can stay for just a day or a week. Rent a golf cart and cruise the island (there are no cars on the island) or take a group tour for a more in depth look of the area. As a kid my family vacationed here a couple of times. As an adult I've done a few day trips. Which ever you chose, it's the adventure of the boat ride and the relaxing atmosphere that makes this trip fun for everyone.

Glass Beach - Fort Bragg
Along the northern coast of California there is a little town, Fort Bragg. Fort Bragg has ones off the most unique beaches, I have even see, Glass Beach. In the early 20th century the area of glass Beach was used as the city dump. People disposed of their garbage, bottles, plates and other stuff off the cliffs onto the beach below. A century later the trash is gone and what’s left is a pebble beach with billions of pieces of beautiful, colored glass. No sharp edges, a century of pounding surf has taken care of that. Walking along the rainbow colored beach it’s hard to believe that this was once a dump. You can drive to Fort Bragg or take The Skunk line train from the Willets KOA. The train runs 40 miles from Willits to Fort Bragg on the coast.

We have stayed at the Willits KOA a couple of times. It's located just outside of town. This KOA has plenty of activities for kids and grown-ups too.
